The Project Table

The table is home base. One row per project.

Search & Sort

Search: Type in the search bar to filter by name, notes, tags, genre, status, key, tempo, tier, progress, collection, parent folder, file names, and Ableton version. Cmd/Ctrl + F jumps to it.

Sort: Click a column header to sort, click again to flip it.

Filters: Click Filter next to the search bar and pick what to filter by: Collection, Folder, Tag, Key, BPM, Tier, Progress, Modified, Created or Smart collection. Each filter shows up as a chip. Click a chip to change it, or its ✕ to remove it. Pick more than one value in a chip, like two tags, and you see projects with either one. Add another chip to narrow it down, since projects have to match every chip. Press Backspace in an empty search bar to remove the newest chip. Clear all and Save as smart collection are at the bottom of the Filter menu.

Selecting Projects

Cmd/Ctrl + Click to pick individual projects
Shift + Click to grab everything between two projects
Shift + Up/Down to grow the selection one row at a time
Cmd/Ctrl + Shift + Up/Down to select everything from your current row to the top or bottom

Click the MAKID logo to clear your selection. Click it again (with nothing selected) to clear filters. Double click it to close any open sidebar.

Renaming Projects

Click a project’s name to edit it, then press Enter or click away (or use Random Name from the right click menu). Press Esc to keep the old name. The new name shows up in MAKID right away. Your project folder on disk keeps its old name.

Renaming the folder too

To rename the folder too, open the Name column settings (wrench icon) and check Rename the project folder on disk. From then on, a few seconds after you rename a project MAKID renames its folder to match (Old Name Project → New Name Project). Your Live sets, samples and bounces inside keep their names, and plays, notes and comments stay with the project. Projects you renamed before turning it on keep their old folder names.

Set open in Live: MAKID waits until you close the set in Live, then renames the folder.
Name not allowed for a folder: names with characters like / or :, or a name another folder already uses, change in MAKID only. A message tells you why.
Turn it back off: uncheck Rename the project folder on disk and renames stay inside MAKID again.

Live still finds the samples inside the renamed project. Other sets that point to files in the renamed folder by their full path can lose them.

Expanding a Project

Double click a row, or hover the # column and click the arrow, to open the project right inside the table. You can also right click and choose Expand. You get five tabs:

Bounces: every bounce, with play counts, waveforms, sharing, and Make primary. See Bounces
Sessions: every .als in the project
Comments: timestamped comments on this project’s bounces
Shares: share links you’ve made from this project. See Sharing
History: every save, bounce and backup, day by day, plus Export creation record…. See History

Playing

Click a row’s play button to play its primary bounce. Playback queues up the projects that have bounces, in your current table order with pinned projects first. Filter or pick a collection first and you’ve got a playlist.

If a project has no bounce, its play button gives you a Session Preview instead.

Drag out a bounce: Drag a row’s play button into Finder, your desktop, a DM, or another DAW to grab the actual audio file. With several projects selected, you drag all their primary bounces at once.

Dropping Files on a Row

Drag an audio file from anywhere onto a project’s row to link it as one of that project’s bounces. The file stays where it is, nothing gets copied. More in Bounces.

Progress & Tier

Progress: Click a project’s Progress cell to set where it’s at. Out of the box you get Ideation, In progress, Needs revision, Final touches, Completed, Released and Abandoned.

Your own progress values: Don’t see your stage? Type it into a Progress cell, like “Mixing” or “Sent to label”, and click Add “Mixing”. It’s saved for every project from then on. You can also add values from bulk edit.

Reorder, rename or remove values: Hover the Progress column header and click the wrench. In there you can:

Drag values to reorder them. Sorting the Progress column follows this order.
Drag a value under Done to count it as finished. The MAKID bot won’t suggest Done projects when you ask what to finish, and it treats later stages under Working on it as closer to done.
Click a name to rename it. Projects keep their value, only the name changes.
Click ✕ to remove a value. If projects use it, MAKID asks where to move them first, or you can pick No progress.

Tier: Rate projects S, A, B, C, D, or F.

To set these on a bunch of projects, use Bulk Edit.

Right click any project:

Expand: open the project’s tabs inside the table
Pin / Unpin: keep the project at the top of the table
Arrangement: open a session in MAKID Session Workspace
Play: play the primary bounce, or pick a specific bounce or the MAKID Session Preview
Open: open the project in Ableton Live, or pick a specific session
Resync: rescan the project from disk, and resync it to your phone if you have MAKID Pro & Sync set up. If the newest bounce is still online only in your cloud drive, MAKID says so, and it goes to your phone once it’s downloaded
Finder (Mac) / File Explorer (Windows): Reveal the folder or Copy path
Show Notes: open the project’s notes
Share bounce: make a share link for the primary bounce. See Sharing
Export creation record…: save a PDF that shows how you made the project, for when someone asks if it’s AI. See History
Random Name: give the project a random name, great for those Untitled 47 projects. If you turned on folder renaming, the folder on disk gets renamed too (see Renaming Projects)
Remove From Collection: take it out of the collection you’re viewing
Archive: hide the project
Delete: remove the project from MAKID

Right click inside a selection and Resync, Random Name, Remove From Collection, Archive, and Delete hit every selected project at once.

Archive vs. Delete

Neither one touches your files on disk.

Archive hides a project from the table. Use this for stuff you’re done with but want to keep around. Archiving also takes it out of its collection. Bring it back any time from Settings → Archived Projects.
Delete removes the project from MAKID completely. If the project folder is still inside a folder MAKID watches, MAKID will find it again on the next scan. So delete is really for projects you’ve already removed from your drive. If you just want it out of sight, archive it.

Pinning & Reordering

Pin: right click a project and choose Pin. Pinned projects stay at the top and show a pin in the # column.
Reorder in a collection: when a collection is selected and nothing is sorted, drag rows up and down. That order only applies to that collection. It works while you search or have pinned projects too, and the project lands right next to the row you drop it on. Smart Collections can’t be reordered.
Move to a collection: drag a row (or a whole selection) onto a collection in the sidebar. See Collections.

To clear a sort so you can reorder, click the sorted column header until the sort arrow goes away.

Columns

Show, hide, reorder, and configure columns from the Columns sidebar or Settings → Columns. See Columns.

Missing Projects

A ⚠ in the # column means MAKID can’t find the project folder anymore. It got moved, renamed, or deleted.

Moved or renamed it? Click the ⚠ (or use + Add Projects) and import the folder from its new spot. Your notes, tags, and everything else come with it.
Deleted it on purpose? Archive or delete the project in MAKID.

Projects on an external drive that isn’t plugged in don’t get the ⚠. They stay in your library and update when you plug the drive back in.
